A Case Study of Sensory Integration Approach for Play therapy on a Rett Syndrome with Social Interaction Deficiency and Delayed Psychomotor Development

Abstract
This study examines a sensory integration approach with play therapy for a 6.7-year-old girl who shows Rett syndrome of social interaction deficiency and delayed psychomotor development and discusses the effectiveness of play therapy based on the sensory integration approach. The therapy was provided through 28 sessions, and major problems of the child were eased, which was verified by pre- and post-test results ( K-DDST ¥±, SMS,CARS, SSP). After the play therapy based on the sensory integration approach, the child showed increased social interaction responses and her psychomotor development was expedited. The results implied that play therapy based on the sensory integration approach could improve social interaction and psychomotor development of children with Rett syndrome.
